How to help

Many people in Haltern are already supporting (other) refugees. Do you want to help asylum seekers as well? That is great! There are many possibilities to become active. On this page you can find information, advice and contact details:

Donate money

Asylkreis and Caritas have created an account to support voluntary work at Asylkreis. Donors can transfer money to the account as mentioned below either selecting the exact purpose of their donation (language courses, Welcome Café, classes for children aged 6 or younger, homework support, classes for children older than 6, international cooking etc.) or they can make a general donation using the keyword "Flüchtlingsarbeit" ("refugee work") to support Asylkreis financially.

Donate time

People who are new in Haltern often have to cope with a challenging new situation, being in a different country where they have to learn a new language and might face different lifestyles. Therefore, they might need some support such as: language courses, transportation services, people who accompany them to the doctors office or to ministeries, advice in everyday life, homework support...

Free time activities can be an important possibility to get to know people from Haltern, to speak German and to make everyday life more interesting.

Please think about your skills and the amount of time you are able to offer and check our offer of existing "Groups". Especially if you have migrated yourself or if you are a more experienced asylum seeker who has been here for some time, your help might be very valuable for others.

Of course you can also become active without being member of a group. A good possibility to get to know asylum seekers are the Cafés, which take place at Lippstraße 7-9 in Haltern.

Donate things

If you want to help with in kind donations, you can contact the Caritas Second Hand Store at Münsterknapp 2: 02364/935908. At the Second Hand Store all customers (of course including refugees) can buy clothes, furniture etc. for very little money.
